National Importance Is About the Endeavor, Not the Industry

Working in an important field does not automatically make a particular endeavor nationally important.

The correct focus

The precedent case of Dhanasar directs USCIS to evaluate the applicant’s specific proposed endeavor and its prospective impact. The importance of healthcare, artificial intelligence, energy, education, or another broad industry does not, by itself, establish national importance.

Look for broader implications

An endeavor may have national importance because it has national or global implications within a field, advances a matter identified by government, produces substantial positive economic effects, creates significant employment, or offers benefits extending beyond one employer or client.

Build the bridge

The petition should connect the applicant’s planned activities to those broader effects. Evidence must explain scale, mechanism, beneficiaries, and reach. A local project can potentially still have broader implications, but the record must show how.
